[Warded Private: Death Eaters and Supporters]

After much searching, I have come up with a couple of potential locations for a school to be built. Naturally, I wish to make a decision as soon as possible so construction can take place over the summer. Both sites have positives and negatives, as we would expect, and it seems that Hogwarts had a very advantageous position in that it was built a thousand or so years ago, when Muggles had not populated every single corner of the country. This is the main issue I have been facing, but hopefully I have overcome this.

  • Option A) Wales. There is a lot of empty space in central Wales and the Brecon Beacons National Park.

    • Advantages: Much of the area is uninhabited and due to the hilly nature of the terrain, unfarmed. The small number of Muggles would be easy to Obliviate and relocate, and the area is easily accessible by train from other areas of the country, if we were to reuse the idea of the Hogwarts Express.

    • Disadvantages: Muggle “roads” are all over the place, and the hilly terrain may make construction complicated. While there are vast uninhabited areas, Muggles swarm over the entire area, and it would require a lot of work to maintain wards and other repelling charms for the entire life of the school.

  • Option B) Taransay. An island in the Outer Hebrides, around two miles from the Isle of Harris. The largest uninhabited Scottish island.

    • Advantages: As mentioned, a large uninhabited island. Around 5.7 square miles (15 square km). Plenty of space for a main school, outbuildings if required, sports fields, facilities for the study of magical creatures, and shops should business owners wish to open a branch. Accessible by boat from Isle of Harris. As an island, easily warded and made unplottable. A pleasant view and sandy beaches for student morale.

    • Disadvantages: Some holidaymakers, but this can be corrected. Main issues would be in transport to the island from the mainland; perhaps portkey to Isle of Harris for those that cannot Apparate? Some hilly terrain.

I personally am leaning towards the island, as it would certainly be the easiest location to begin construction immediately, and the only real problem is that of access. Yet, as I have mentioned, I am sure there is a simple solution to this.

Other matters regarding the school (Houses or no, for example) will be sorted as soon as the Board of Governors is finalized and construction has begun, as the latter is currently my highest priority.

[End ward]

I feel now is a prudent time to announce some plans I have been sitting on for quite some time. If all goes as expected, a new school shall open this September to take over the teaching of our children. This school will uphold many of Hogwarts’ values, while introducing some new ones. Children of all abilities from magical blood will automatically be granted a place at the school. Currently, I am assembling a Board of Governors, and all enquiries regarding this, or even teaching, can be directed to me.

I'm interested in these new values. What are they?

Respect, for one. I have no intention of providing our society with even more terrorists.

It seems that Option B seems best. It gives us more of a clean slate to work with. As for transportation, perhaps something enchanted.. A boat, or something equally as spacious and comfortable (something to match the theme of the school, if any) can transport students from a dock to the school. Somewhat like a portkey but hopefully much less.. stressful, of a trip. Perhaps if the process was slowed down, it wouldn't be as hectic?

On another note, you've done a wonderful job so far Mr. Malfoy! If there's anything I can assist with, please do let me know.

A boat is something I have been considering, particularly between the mainland and Harris, although students would have to be split into much smaller boats to reach Taransay itself. Hopefully, if the train still went from Kings Cross, the trip to the school would not be quite so long as the trip to Hogwarts, despite the addition of boats.

Thank you very much, Miss Wilkes. I shall certainly bear that in mind.

This may be an absurd question but is it possible to make it to the island by ship? It is the inaccessibility that really makes the second option preferable of course, but I know that there was a sense of transition with the Hogwarts Express that I hate to completely do away with.

Also, just in general I would express my interest in being involved with this project. I would like very much to see it succeed.

There are no official docks at the island, although one could be built, but boat access would be restricted to a smaller fleet of vessels. Harris is accessible by much larger ships, which could negate the need for portkeys, before the students board the smaller boats for the final journey to the school.

Thank you, Severus. I have not forgotten the interest you expressed in teaching.

Perhaps a larger ship to Harris, and then smaller boats to the final journey to the school? While I like the transition time the trip allows, I think what is done should certainly be what makes the most practical sense, and if that is Portkeys or Apparation for those who can, then that makes more practical sense.

It is looking as if I will have take the final tests for my Potions Mastery towards the end of August so I would certainly be qualified to teach potions, although I confess an interest in defence and the dark arts as well.

Just children from magical blood, I'm sure.
