.000. Character information - [info]blurred_lines

[OOC] - About the character

Basics

• Name: Lucius Libatius Malfoy.
• Birthdate: October 2, 1954.
• Citizenship: British.
• Current residence: Malfoy Manor, Wiltshire, England.
• Blood status: The purest of pure-blood.

Physical

• Height/weight: 6' / 190 lbs.
• Hair/eyes: Pale blonde / grey.
• Manner of speech: Received pronunciation. Lucius has a rather clipped and formal tone, and usually speaks fairly slowly and deliberately. His voice is an easy tenor, although it can get rather nasal when he's being deliberately patronising - something he does rather well. He can control the emotion in his voice extremely well, which makes him a master liar. Often, Lucius speaks with a drawl, giving off the impression of boredom. However, he is a very persuasive speaker when he wants to be, and has a large vocabulary of rather long words.
• Manner of dress: Only the best quality fabrics and tailoring, thank you very much! It's fair to say that Lucius has never owned or would be seen dead in something that a Muggle might wear. He's very traditional in his dress sense, preferring billowing robes, usually black ones. It gives off a rather intimidating impression, which is entirely his intention.
• Physical description: Lucius stands reasonably tall at around six foot, and certainly cuts a striking figure. He, like many of his ancestors before him, has the pale blonde hair and cold grey eyes associated with the Malfoy family. His face could never be described as "friendly" or "kind", as he usually carries a rather cold expression, his jawline set and his eyes unsmiling. In fact, it's very rare that his eyes smile at all, as when he does smile, the expression only occasionally travels further than the edges of his thin lips. While he is not attractive in the conventional sense, he does have a certain way of holding himself that confirms his status in the upper echelon of the wizarding world, and gives off a definate aura of power. Lucius is not particularly muscular, be he could never be described as scrawny, and with his rather stocky build would appear to be a formidable opponent in a fight.
• First impression: Powerful and charming, yet cold.

• PB: Paul Bettany (circa... idk, a few years ago).

Personal

• General personality: "Arrogant bastard" is often a phrase muttered by some after finishing a conversation with Lucius. And the first part, at least, is certainly true. Lucius is very self assured - he knows he's powerful, influential, and stinking rich. After all, the Dark Lord refers to him by his first name! His ego isn't big enough for him to boast, but there's something about him that just reeks of confidence. Lucius can also be selfish - he's got a very strong sense of self-preservation and looking after number one is certainly one of his main priorities. This isn't to say that he doesn't care about others at all, because he does, but to have Lucius care about you, one must work extremely hard to gain his trust and respect. Certainly, Lucius is a very hard man to please.

Being a Death Eater, it's unsurprising that Lucius doesn't trust easily, nor does he suffer fools gladly. He is impatient with those that he feels do not earn his time, and can come across patronising and condescending. Of course, often he means to come across as such, as belittling people just makes him feel all the more powerful. And 'power' is a key word when describing Lucius - it's what he seeks above all else. He's certainly got a lot at the moment, but it'll never be enough for him. He's willing to work hard for this power, and has a very dubious set of morals when it comes to what he will and will not do for the Dark Lord. Really, he's weak-willed, and a very easy person to manipulate. Promise him rewards and Lucius will be your loyal lackey.

He's no cruel bully, however. Lucius is an extremely intelligent man who uses means other than crude insults and hexes. He knows how to undermine people, and has a knack for zooming in right on people's weak spots. While insulting people is not below him, and can occasionally be rather fun, he prefers not to waste his time around the little people. He's a talented wizard, and has something of a silver tongue which he uses well, influencing and charming people wherever he goes. When hit with the full persuasive force of Lucius's nature, it's hard to resist his requests and suggestions, particularly when large bags of gold come into play.

Lucius is somewhat set in the old ways, and this is partially why he is involved in the war. He's very stubborn when it comes to his opinions and beliefs, and when his mind is set it is virtually impossible to sway him. It's a very rare feat for Lucius to admit that he's in the wrong, and it's only those who Lucius deems on a higher level than himself that he'll admit this to. It's also very rare to hear him apologise. Something that Lucius is particularly stubborn about is the protection of his family. While loyalty is not a Slytherin trait, Lucius will do anything to ensure the well-being of those he loves, although he does not easily and this group is extremely small. It's hard to believe that there is a heart under his cold and polished exterior, but it's there.
• Strengths and weaknesses: This is explained somewhat above, but to sum up; his strengths include charm, persuasiveness, a strong will, high ambitions and the drive to achieve these ambitions, intelligence, and loyalty to his family. Weakness include being weak-willed, egotistical and arrogant, too stubborn for his own good, an inability to admit he's in the wrong, and possessing a rather dubious set of morals.
• Mental health: While some may suggest his need for power is unhealthy, he is actually totally sane.

Relationships

• Relatives: As an only child, Lucius's immediate living family consists of his father Abraxas Malfoy (b. 1925) and his mother, Aureole Malfoy née Yaxley (b. 1931). Abraxas died of dragonpox on December 30, 1979, while Lucius was in Azkaban.
• Relationship with family: Cordial. While Lucius's childhood environment was not a particularly loving one, he still carries a great deal of respect for his parents and, to a degree, still obeys their wishes wherever possible. He believes his upbringing was not lacking in anything, and when he has a child of his own, he aims to bring them up in the exact same way. However, he is slightly closer to his mother than his father, as Abraxas was rarely around when Lucius was young.
• Sexuality: Heterosexual.
• Significant other: Narcissa Malfoy, née Black, of course.
• Children: None yet, although one day he hopes to produce an heir. One on the way! Draco Abraxas Cygnus Malfoy, born 5th June 1980.

Educational

• School: Hogwarts.
• Years: 1966-1973.
• House: Slytherin.
• Achievements: Member of the Slug Club, Prefect.
• NEWTS:
Potions - O
Transfiguration - O
Defence Against The Dark Arts - O
Charms - O
Ancient Runes - E
Arithmancy - E

Occupational

• Occupation: None, it's not as if he needs the income. Lucius has devoted himself full-time to the Death Eaters, and uses his power and influence within the Ministry for The Cause.
• Previous jobs, if any: None.

The War

• How is your character involved in the war? Lucius is one of the select few who are classed as the second generation of Death Eaters, yet are in Voldemort's inner circle. He took the Dark Mark not long after leaving school, after being recruited via pureblood families. It soon became apparent that Lucius's area of excellence lay not in his duelling skills (although he will still get his hands dirty on occasion) but in his power and influence. The Malfoys are, along with the Blacks, one of the richest and most influential families in wizarding Britain. Abraxas was an extremely well-respected and powerful man, and Lucius followed in his footsteps. He has many contacts in the high levels of the Ministry, and is on speaking terms with the Minister himself. As such, his status as a Death Eater has never been proven, although many people may suspect. Lucius has proved that it's entirely true that a few well chosen words in an ear here and a large donation of gold there makes a world of difference.
• Will your character die during the next year? No.
• If yes, please give some details on how/when you'd like this to occur: N/A.

Overall History
Each section should be at least one paragraph

FATHER - Abraxas Malfoy (d. 1979)
PATERNAL GRANDPARENTS - Evander Malfoy & Lucina Travers (d. ?)

MOTHER - Aureole Yaxley
MATERNAL GRANDPARENTS - Hector Yaxley (who is the nephew of Lysandra Yaxley on the tree) & Felicia Flint (d. ?)
UNCLE - Vitus Yaxley (d. 1980)
AUNT - Acacia Bletchley (d. 1980)
COUSIN - Leoben Yaxley (d. 1980)

• Family/childhood:
While the marriage between Abraxas Malfoy and Aureole Yaxley wasn't described as 'arranged', it was certainly not one of romance and the fact that the pair got along rather well was a bonus, really. It was the kind of marriage where the couple would sleep in the same bed, go out together in public and appear to be having a totally normal relationship, but there was no real affection between the two. They were just glad to have made a suitable, pureblood marriage, and saw it their duty to produce an heir. Not long after the marriage, Abraxas's father passed away, and they inherited the family mansion in Oxfordshire, allowing Abraxas's mother to remain living there in her own wing until her own death in 1963.

Lucius Libatius Malfoy came into the world on the afternoon of the second of October, 1954, the only child of his parents, and heir to the Malfoy fortune. He was an unremarkable baby, and was immediately handed over to one of the mediwitches present, which the instruction "take him away from me for a while, and owl his father while you're at it." This pretty much summed up much of Lucius's first week in the world, until his mother could find a suitable nanny to look after the child.

As a child, Lucius wasn't close to his mother, as he was confined to his own rooms with his nanny, and Aureole only visited him occasionally to make sure he was keeping up with lessons. Abraxas visited even less frequently. His grandmother however, would occasionally read him stories, and he looked forward to her visits much more than he looked forward to those of his mother. Lucius had a governess to school him in everything a pureblooded young man should know - not just reading, writing and arithmetic, but etiquette and purism. He was a well-behaved boy who knew his place, and took to his lessons well.

When his grandmother disappeared from his life when he was 9, it was Lucius's first experience with death. However, by then, his mother had deigned him old enough to start accompanying her to social events and galas. He thought these a bore, and always slipped away from his mother's side to play with the other children. As a natural leader, these games were usually of his own invention and involved the glorification of wizards over muggles. Playing "wizards and muggles" was when Lucius first showed what he would be capable of in the future - he was always the persecutor, rather than the persecutee.

• School/work:
Receiving a Hogwarts letter was not as big a deal for him as it was for many other young witches and wizards. The trip to Diagon Alley to collect his belongings was simply another morning where he was to seen and not heard, and the only real thing that made much resonance was the talk Abraxas gave him on the evening of August 31. Lucius was overwhelmed to have so much attention from his powerful, important, and elusive father. It is this that made him listen so intently to the talk Abraxas gave, in which he instructed Lucius that he must uphold the family reputation at Hogwarts - not only must he work hard and achieve academically, but he must be a credit to the Malfoy name. This, of course, included not associating with 'mudbloods'.

Upon reaching Hogwarts, Lucius was immediately Sorted into Slytherin. This was no surprise to him or anyone else, everyone in his family had been in the house of Salazar. However, Lucius wasn't just Sorted into Slytherin for his name; the hat saw many traits in him that suited the house. While Lucius was certainly ambitious, even as an 11-year-old, his ambition mainly centred around power, and the fact that he would be perfectly willing to do whatever it took to achieve this power. Lucius was perfectly happy with this decision, and his first evening at Hogwarts was an enjoyable one. Many of his new housemates either already knew the Malfoy name or already knew him through the pureblood lines and the events his mother had made him attend with her.

Lucius had no problem making friends at Hogwarts, certainly. He had a certain charm to him, and a charisma that drew people to him without him having to resort to intimidation. He excelled in lessons too, achieving high scores in most of them although he took rather a lazy attitude towards his work. The fact that he made sure he was on good terms with all his teachers had nothing to do with that, of course! He was no flier, and as such took no interest in Quidditch, as he took no interest in many other things that he did not excel at.

It wasn't long before he attracted the attentions of Professor Horace Slughorn, who asked him to join the Slug Club. It was here that Lucius made connections that he still uses to this day - which was entirely the point of the club, of course. He was also an obvious candidate for becoming a prefect in his fifth year. He revelled in this new power, using it whenever possible, but often being softer on his housemates than entirely fair. His grades slipped at the end of fifth year when he could no longer coast by on natural intelligence, giving him slightly lower OWL results than he expected. This didn't stop him for signing up for six NEWTs, of course. It was something of a shock to Lucius when he wasn't named Head Boy in his seventh year. He had the necessary attributes, right? It's very possible that the Headmaster didn't trust Lucius with the power that being Head Boy would bring - while he wouldn't really abuse it, a reality check was something that he very desperately needed.

It was at Hogwarts that he met a certain Narcissa Black. She was in the year below him, a fellow Slytherin, and the youngest daughter in the latest generation of Blacks; a family just as pureblooded and powerful as the Malfoys themselves. He knew he had to have her, and she finally consented to date him towards the end of his sixth year. It was this rather than his grades that made his parents truly proud of him, and it was this realisation that probably determined his future with Narcissa. However, he was genuinely fond of her, and they continued courting after his graduation while she finished her own education. It wasn't long after her own graduation that Lucius proposed to Narcissa. She accepted, and wedding plans began.

• Recent history:
After a hugely publicised and extremely lavish wedding, the newlyweds moved into a mansion in Wiltshire. While Lucius idly looked into work within the Ministry, he preferred to slip into his own role there, that of a benefactor. This effectively gave him much influence within the Ministry without him having to move his way through the ranks. He was recruited as a Death Eater via his bloodline and through the lines of corrpution within the Ministry, and he considered this a great honour. He took the Dark Mark with pride, and vowed that he would serve the Dark Lord as faithfully as he could.

Lucius found that his influence didn't work so well within the ranks of the Death Eaters, but nevertheless he was able to gain himself a place right in Lord Voldemort's inner circle. He is extremely loyal to the cause, using his considerably large sphere of influence wherever he can, and his only failure thus far is in his private life, where he and Narcissa have not yet succeeded in producing an heir.
